MEET THE CREATOR
I'm Kelsey, and I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. During the 40-hour workweek shuffle, I'm a Freelance Creative Director & Writer, but my real passions are skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and skating. I currently live in San Francisco, California with my dog where I try my best to get to the mountains or the beach as often as I can, so I can write about my experiences.
Growing up, I never felt like I had strong female role models in the sports that interested me, let alone any women of color. When I started surfing and skating in 2014 as a complete beginner, I felt very intimidated throughout the whole process. I started Gnarly Girls to showcase the inspiring women who ride at ALL levels. I wanted to create a place where beginners feel like they can ask the "dumb" questions without getting put down, find women to look up to, and feel like part of an exciting and inclusive community.
